Pet Christmas recipe

Pet Christmas recipe

Chances are, by now you've gotten the last of your Christmas gift shopping done, parents, partners, cousins and work friends all accounted for — but wait, do you have a gift for your furbaby? Our furry friends want to be a part of the festivities in their own unique way, including receiving an exciting gift for Santa Paws on Christmas Day. Don't worry, if you don't have anything for them, we can help! Whip up any one of these recipes and gift them to your pet on Christmas to make their day. Or, if you were prepared and have your pet's Christmas present wrapped and under the tree already, you can make these to prevent your furbaby getting too into the human Christmas food! Keep them safe and bring the joy with these three recipes:

Dog Gravy
Whip this up for a delicious topper for their food, frozen in blocks for a savoury cool-down treat or over a cheeky slice of Christmas turkey.

1 cup low-sodium bone broth, free of onions, spices or additives.
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon cold water
2 tablespoons of mashed/pureed pumpkin

In a saucepan on medium high heat, combine the mashed pumpkin and bone broth. In a smaller bowl, combine the cold water and cornstarch to form a 'slurry'.  Once combined, add the cornstarch slurry and whisk until combined. Heat for a little longer until it's thickened closer to a gravy consistency. Cool down to pour over raw pet food or wait until warm to serve.

Dog Christmas biscuits
If your dog loves to rip into paper, boxes, play with puzzle toys or sniff through grass (or ripped up brown paper bags), they would love to rip through some wrapping paper to get their paws on these Christmas biscuits.

2 cups mashed/pureed sweet potato
1 eggs
1/2 cup oats
3 cups whole wheat flour or oat flour if your pet is sensitive to grains
3 Tbsp of all natural peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon

In a bowl, stir together the flour, oats, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, puree, and peanut butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients.

Roll out onto a floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut the cookies into Christmas-y shapes such as a Christmas tree, a star or a Santa hat.

If the dough is a bit sticky, dust your hands and the rolling pin. Bake for 35 minutes, then cool and share with your furbaby!

Puppy Dessert
Christmas this year is projected to be hot and humid, so keeping your pup cool is super important! Give them a tasty sweet treat to keep them entertained, cool and satisfied.

1/2 cup plain yoghurt (try dog yoghurt if your pup is sensitive to dairy)
1/4 cup mashed banana or apple sauce
A handful of dog biscuits as above, shredded coconut or blueberries.

Combine the yoghurt and  mashed banana or apple until smooth. Spoon the mixture into a bowl, silicone mold or container. Top with the biscuits, coconut or fruit, then freeze for at least two hours. If you're going to leave it in the freezer for longer than 2 hours, cover completely to avoid freezer burn.

These are all delicious treats your pet will love this Christmas! If you make any of these, tag us in pictures so we can share the puppy dog joy!
