Summer Treat

Pet Ice Blocks

There's nothing Aussies like more than a cold treat on a hot summers day, whether it is a chocolate paddle pop, golden gaytime, sunnyboy or a drumstick. As hot as us humans get in our shorts and singlets, imagine how it is for your furbaby. They'd love a break from the heat just like us, and you can give it to them with this three ingredient recipe, easily adaptable to suit your pet's tastebuds. All it takes is a pet-friendly fruit like a de-cored apple, peeled peach or banana, a bit of unsweetened greek yoghurt and some water.

There are a ton of important vitamins, antioxidants, carbs and hydration to be found in fruit and this is one simple and fun way to introduce fruit into your pet's diet. This can be served between meals as a treat, but be mindful of the sugar content of the fruit. Peaches especially have a high sugar volume, then apples and bananas, so be mindful of when and how often you share this delicious treat.

PS Yes, this is okay for humans, too! Most human ice blocks include extra sweetener and fillers but this is a perfectly great summer treat if you're looking for something simple, natural and hydrating. Check out the recipes below.

Apples

2 apples, de-cored and skinned.

1 cup of unsweetened yoghurt

1 tablespoon of water

Peaches

1 large peach or 2 small ones, skinned

1 1/2 cup of unsweetened yoghurt

1 tablespoon of water

Banana

2 large bananas

1 cup of unsweetened greek yoghurt

2 tablespoons of water

Blend all of the ingredients together until smooth, pour into a mould or ice tray and freeze for 4 hours until frozen. Give this is as a cooling sweet treat between meals. You could add 2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter and an additional 1/2 tablespoon of water to any of these for boosted protein and flavour.
