Upcycle Our Packaging
We all know how important reducing waste is for the environment. We've talked before about food waste and the importance of reducing food waste. At Bella and Boots we try our best to reduce the possibility of food waste from production, including using the "undesirable" meat cuts including organ meats and bones to reduce the wastage from our sister company, Eumundi Meats. Our recent change to 250g discs is another way we've worked to reduce waste, now you can portion and defrost easier than ever!
Reducing food waste is important, but so is reducing packaging waste. The thing about packaging is we have to balance food safety, convenience and sustainability, we can't do it all on our own, that's why we want your help!
Read below a few ways you can reuse and upcycle our packaging.
Hold Homemade Pet Treats: If you love to make your pets delicious pet treats and need a way to make them last longer, you can use our empty food bags! Resealable food bags are perfect for keeping those delicious pet treats fresh and ready for your furry friend's enjoyment. Plus, it makes it clear who those delicious treats belong to. Ensure the package is completely cleaned and dry before you put fresh food in there!
Interactive Treat Game: Pet toys and enrichment toys don’t have to be expensive, you can reuse and recycle things all around your home, including our food bags! Create an interactive game for your pet by placing dry treats inside a resealable bag with small holes. Ensure the seal is shut tightly and give it to your pet. Your pet will have a blast figuring out how to get the treats out.
Storing Pet Things: Keep pet essentials like collars, leashes, and poop bags neatly organised in resealable bags, keeping your space clean and tidy for when they’re not in use. It is also a great option for travel to keep everything dry and in one place.
On-the-Go Poop Bags: If you're in a pinch, resealable food bags can serve as convenient and portable poop bags for those unexpected moments during walks or as a convenient reservoir for when you’re poop scooping the backyard.

Leftover Storage: A well sanitized, cleaned and dried food bag can be used for, you guessed it, food! For human food this time. Whether you make too much pasta, minced meat or soup, or you’re looking to cover cans to store in the fridge, the seal can keep your food fresh in the fridge. Just make sure you don’t get it and your fresh Bella and Boots packs confused! You can also use it for pantry items like pasta, baked goods, chips or nuts (that don’t already come in resealable bags).
Homemade Ice Pack: Create a DIY ice pack by filling a resealable bag with water, sealing it tightly, and placing it in the freezer. You can also use gel beads or old peas that you don’t plan on eating. It's great for first aid or keeping things cool.
Marinading: Ensuring you’ve thoroughly sanitised and cleaned the packs, you can use resealable bags to marinate meats and vegetables. It also makes clean-up a breeze, saves room in your fridge and reduces the need for excessive containers.

Junk Drawer Organiser: Tame the chaos in your junk drawer by using resealable bags to categorise and store miscellaneous items like screws, buttons, and other odds and ends.

It is important to note that whatever you do, the packet should be cleaned and sanitised. Even though our raw blends are human grade and safe for consumption, it is better to be safe than sorry: ensure everything is completely dry to prevent the destruction of whatever you put inside. Ultimately, reusing Bella and Boots packs will not only save you money on buying containers, bags and organisational tools, but it will help the planet. Reducing consumption, upcycling old products and reusing them means it won't rot in landfill and contribute to methane production. It is a win-win-win!
