Can your pet snack?

Give the Puppies What They Want

Every day without fail, your dog is hungry. Even after breakfast, maybe even after dinner — the puppy dog eyes come out and they want what you have. Bacon, ice cream, toast, mince, pasta; and even if you tell them it’s no good for them, it’s not for dogs, this is mine, go away, they don’t care. Even with a bowl full of Bella and Boots in their belly. In this circumstance, is it right to feed them more?

We have a portion guide on our website that helps you figure out how much to feed your pet per day, with their daily intake split into two meals such as breakfast and dinner. We designed Bella and Boots so that your pet can receive their entire nutritional needs in these two meals, including protein, iron, and vitamins. So, if your pet is still hungry even after eating their serving of Bella and Boots, it shouldn’t be because they’re lacking nutritionally. In the circumstance your pet is healthy, they could be looking for more food because they exercised more than usual, because they’re chasing a yummy taste, or truly because they just want to have what you have, they want to be involved in your life.

In this case, feeding your pet a snack around lunchtime or as ‘dessert’ on occasion (maybe every second day) shouldn’t cause any problems, so long as you’re feeding them appropriate stuff. Fruits like carrots, blueberries and apples, vegetables like sweet potato, potato and carrots are great satisfying snacks to have sometimes due to their sugar content. Raw animal bones, frozen bone broth, cooked unseasoned meat are all delicious and safe snacks as well.

If your pet is a snacky pet usually but isn’t suffering from obesity, lethargy, joint pain or refusing to eat their usual meals, we say there’s not too much to worry about. Try to reduce the amount of processed food given to your pet and feed them foods that contribute to their nutritional wellbeing.  We make it extra easy by selling treats such as beef trachea, chicken feet, bone broth and more on our website, so you can order your pet’s weekly meals and any extra snacks all together at Bella and Boots or by coming in-store at Eumundi Meats
