Staffies are one breed of dog who love our Bella and Boots packs. Officially named Staffordshire Bull Terriers, they’re medium-sized, well-muscled and bouncing with energy. They come in a multitude of colours: black, white, red, fawn, brindle, blue or any interesting mix. Their coats are short and smooth, easy to maintain with a non-frequent brush.
Staffies were bred in the 1800s by crossing the bulldog with a terrier — a fox terrier or something similar — creating an agile, quick and high-demand dog. 150 years after its inception, Southampton University included staffy’s on a top 10 list of dog breeds best suited for families and households with small children. From the 20th century to now, they have been known to be highly intelligent, eager to please, people-friendly and readily adaptable to different situations.
They can thrive in smaller, apartment living with attentive play time, plenty of food and some training. Once you accept a Staffie into your family, you never go back.
