Brain Health

Free Range

The human brain is complex, fascinating and vital to all of our functions (including liking cute dog photos on Instagram). The food we eat plays a huge part in our brain health, and the same is true for your furry friend.

The running, jumping, tail wagging, paw kneading, licks and big round, soft eyes at dinner time can all be attributed to a healthy brain. Healthy, nutrient-rich foods are vital to your cat and dog’s brain and, general, health.  The brain requires a few specific things to keep it chugging along like the over-excited pup or chronically curious kitten it belongs to, which is why we make sure to fill our Bella and Boots packs with brain-happy nutrients.

Thiamin, or Vitamin B1, is responsible for several basic cell functions and creating energy. Brains require a constant surplus of energy to function and send signals to other parts of the body to breath, blink, jump and eat, drink and use the bathroom [1]. Thiamin can be found in pork, fish and other organ meats, especially liver. Green vegetables are also a great source of Thiamin; all of which are found in our various food packs. Particularly, our House Lion Blend — made especially for cats, but also as a great choice for any dog — is chock-full of seafood, seasonal greens and organ meats.

Other vitamins like vitamin A and D are vital for brain and general health. They supply energy to the brain, as well as building defence against diseases which can impact brain function. Iron plays a huge part in blood health, that of which is responsible of getting oxygen to the brain and protecting the organ from suffocation damage [2].

Amino acids and protein have a direct link to brain function as a part of the organs make up. Proteins and amino acids are the building blogs for neurotransmitters which send signals through the body: sit, roll over, jump!  Vitamin A, D, amino acids and protein can all be found in the ingredients of our Bella and Boots packs. Beef is high in protein and iron, chicken in amino acids and fatty acids and kangaroo, which can be found in the Wild Kangaroo and Beetroot packs, are high in protein, too. More than just the usual steaks, sausages and rump, we ground up the organs and bones to add another, deeper layer of nutrients to the food packs.  We don’t like to brag (much) but our food packs really are made to keep your furbaby as happy, healthy and cute as possible.
